The Uniform Bound Problem for Local Birational Nonsingular Morphisms

چکیده

It is known that any factorization of a local birational morphism f: Spec 5 —» SpecJ? of nonsingular (affine) schemes of arbitrary dimension via other nonsingular schemes must be finite in length. This fact generalizes the classical Local Factorization Theorem of Zariski and Abhyankar, which states that there is a unique such factorization, that given by quadratic transformations, in the surface case. A much stronger generalization is given here, namely, that there exists a uniform bound on the lengths of all such factorizations, provided that R is excellent. This bound is explicitly calculated for some concrete extensions and examples are given to show that this is the strongest generalization possible in some sense.

Toroidalization of locally toroidal morphisms of 3-folds

A toroidalization of a dominant morphism $varphi: Xto Y$ of algebraic varieties over a field of characteristic zero is a toroidal lifting of $varphi$ obtained by performing sequences of blow ups of nonsingular subvarieties above $X$ and $Y$. We give a proof of toroidalization of locally toroidal morphisms of 3-folds.

On the Exceptional Locus of the Birational Projections of a Normal Surface Singularity into a Plane

Given a normal surface singularity (X,Q) and a birational morphism to a nonsingular surface π : X → S, we investigate the local geometry of the exceptional divisor L of π. We prove that the dimension of the tangent space to L at Q equals the number of exceptional components meeting at Q. Consequences relative to the existence of such birational projections contracting a prescribed number of irr...

Birational morphisms and Poisson moduli spaces

We study birational morphisms between smooth projective surfaces that respect a given Poisson structure, with particular attention to induced birational maps between the (Poisson) moduli spaces of sheaves on those surfaces. In particular, to any birational morphism, we associate a corresponding “minimal lift” operation on sheaves of homological dimension ≤ 1, and study its properties. In partic...

Explicit Birational Geometry of Threefolds of General Type

Let V be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove that P12(V ) > 0 and P24(V ) > 1. We also prove that the canonical volume has an universal lower bound Vol(V ) ≥ 1/2660 and that the pluri-canonical map φm is birational onto its image for all m ≥ 77. As an application of our method, we prove Fletcher’s conjecture on weighted hyper-surface 3-folds with terminal quotient ...

2 7 Fe b 20 09 BIRATIONAL MOTIVES , I : PURE BIRATIONAL MOTIVES

In the preprint [19], we toyed with birational ideas in three areas of algebraic geometry: plain varieties, pure motives in the sense of Grothendieck, and triangulated motives in the sense of Voevodsky. These three themes are finally treated separately in revised versions. The first one was the object of [21]; the second one is the object of the present paper; we hope to complete the third one ...
